Who We Are
The Puma Energy Fund supports non-profit organisations and social enterprises addressing critical health and development challenges, with a strong focus on low- and middle-income countries.
Its strategy prioritises improving road safety and expanding access to clean energy, particularly for last-mile and off-grid communities across Africa and Latin America.
Puma Energy is the Fund’s sole donor, providing financial support, while all programme decisions and grant-making remain fully independent under the Fund’s own mandate.
Originally established in 2013 as an independent philanthropic entity governed under Swiss law, the Puma Energy Foundation transitioned in 2026 into the Puma Energy Fund. The Fund is now hosted by the Trafigura Foundation, strengthening its integration within an established platform for corporate giving.
Despite this structural evolution, the same management team has overseen both entities since inception, ensuring continuity in leadership, partnerships and delivery.
What We Do
The Puma Energy Fund provides grant funding to non-profit partners delivering high-impact programmes across Africa and Latin America. We monitor results and share stories that highlight real impact on people’s lives.
In line with our strategy, we focus on two key areas:
Road Safety
Road traffic injuries cause over 1.3 million deaths each year, with more than 90% occurring in low- and middle-income countries. #1 cause of death for children and youth aged 5-29 years.
We support road safety education, safe mobility tools and behaviour change initiatives, including driver training and community-based awareness programmes.
Clean Energy
Around 1 in 10 people globally still lacks electricity, while 2.6 billion rely on polluting fuels for cooking and heating. Nearly 1 billion people rely on healthcare facilities without reliable power.
We support clean energy access for last-mile communities, solar electrification of health facilities, and energy system strengthening through partnerships and capacity building.
In addition to these strategic programmes, the Fund also supports Charity of the Year initiatives and a Matching Funds scheme, through which Puma Energy employees’ donations to selected non-profit causes are matched globally (see Staff Engagement for more information).
Staff Engagement
Alongside its strategic partnerships in road safety and access to clean energy with implementing organisations across Africa and Latin America, the Puma Energy Fund supports causes championed by Puma Energy staff.
We work with Puma Energy offices to select Charities of the Year – organisations that employees choose to support through volunteering and engagement over the course of the year. The Fund provides dedicated grants to these charities to strengthen their work and encourage meaningful interaction with Puma Energy staff.
In addition, through our Matching Funds scheme, employees can organise fundraising activities for causes they care about. The Fund then matches the funds raised, doubling the impact of staff contributions and helping foster a philanthropic spirit across Puma Energy teams.
